What to Expect

During Treatment

During the procedure, a handheld device delivers controlled pulses of light to the targeted areas. Patients may experience a mild snapping sensation as the light penetrates the skin. Sessions typically last between 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the size & number of areas being treated.

Recovery Phase

Post-treatment, some redness & a warm sensation similar to a mild sunburn may occur, usually subsiding within a few hours. Pigmented areas may darken before flaking off over the next week. It’s essential to avoid direct sun exposure & apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen to protect the skin during the healing process.

For Optimal Results

For best outcomes, a series of 2 to 4 treatments spaced several weeks apart is recommended. Adhering to a consistent skincare routine & protecting the skin from UV exposure will help maintain and enhance the results.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does IPL Photofacial work?

IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) Photofacial uses broad-spectrum light energy to target pigmented areas & blood vessels in the skin. The high-intensity pulses of light penetrate deep into the dermis without harming the surrounding tissue. The light energy is absorbed by:

  • Melanin (pigment in sunspots, freckles, and age spots) – The heat energy breaks down excess melanin, allowing the body to naturally eliminate it over time, reducing discoloration & evening out skin tone.
  • Hemoglobin (in broken blood vessels, rosacea, and redness) – The light targets unwanted blood vessels, causing them to shrink & be absorbed by the body, diminishing redness & visible veins.
  • Collagen-producing skin cells – The light stimulates fibroblasts, triggering new collagen production, which improves skin texture, elasticity & firmness over time.

This treatment effectively brightens, smooths & rejuvenates the skin, reducing signs of aging, sun damage & redness for a clearer, healthier complexion.

Is the treatment painful?

Most patients find IPL Photofacial to be a comfortable, well-tolerated procedure. However, mild discomfort can be expected.

  • The sensation is often compared to a light snapping or rubber band flicking against the skin as the light pulses penetrate the skin’s surface.
  • Some patients experience a mild warming or tingling sensation, but the built-in cooling technology of the IPL device helps to minimize discomfort.
  • For patients with sensitive skin, a topical numbing cream can be applied before treatment to increase comfort.

The procedure is quick, non-invasive & requires no anesthesia, making it a convenient option for skin rejuvenation with minimal disruption to daily activities.

Can IPL Photofacial be combined with other treatments?

Yes! IPL Photofacial can be combined with other treatments for enhanced skin rejuvenation and even better results.

  • Hydrafacial or Chemical Peels – Exfoliates dead skin cells & enhances IPL’s brightening effects
  • Microneedling with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) – Boosts collagen production & improves skin texture and firmness
  • Botox & Fillers – Complements IPL by smoothing dynamic wrinkles & restoring facial volume

Our skin experts will design a personalized treatment plan to help you achieve the best possible results.

Is the IPL Photofacial safe for all skin types?

No! The IPL Photofacial is not safe on darker skin types/colors. It is important to go to a clinic that specializes in skin so that a Board-Certified Dermatologist and their team can determine if this treatment is right for you.
