Frequently Asked Questions

How do Lucere's IPL Photofacials work?

This treatment uses Intense Pulse Light (IPL) that selectively targets and removes brown spots from the skin, as well as superficial dilated capillaries. The advanced IPL technology works to treat pigmentation and vascular imperfections, resulting in a visible improvement in skin tone and overall complexion.

The IPL handpiece is designed with nine ExpertFilters™ that work specifically with the condition being treated. Three SapphireCool™ lightguides are used for continuous contact cooling, to provide the maximum amount of comfort during your IPL Photofacial. At Lucere, we offer a variety of lasers, such as the Lumecca IPL, the M22 and the EXCEL V+ lasers to select the best treatment for every unique case.

How should I prepare for the procedure?

Clients are advised to avoid direct, excessive sun exposure or tanning one month prior to treatment.

What areas of the body can be treated?

Lucere’s IPL Photofacial can be used on all areas of the body. However, the most common areas of treatment are zones that are regularly exposed to the sun, such as:

  • Face
  • Neck
  • Décolletage/Chest
  • Legs
  • Hands
  • Arms

What can I expect during and after the procedure?

During treatment there will be a bright flash of light, this is the IPL at work. You will then feel a sensation that is similar to that of an elastic band lightly snapping on your skin. Redness and a slight warming of the skin are normal after treatment and usually subside within an hour.

You may see a darkening of pigmented spots within the next 24-48 hours following your treatment. In a week, the pigment will flake off leaving you with a more even skin tone. For vein treatment, in a week the vein will blanch and disappear, or colour will change in the vessel which will dissipate after a few days.

How long does each treatment take?

Treatment time may vary depending on your unique skin concerns. However, most treatments are completed within 1 hour.

How long is the IPL Photofacial treatment?

Treatment times vary depending on the targeted area of the body. However, treatments typically last between 20-60 minutes.

When will I see results?

IPL Photofacials are most commonly used to treat:

  • Age spots (red/brown pigmentations)
  • Vascular lesions such as facial telangiectasias (spider veins) and poikiloderma
  • Rosacea (redness)
  • Freckles
  • Sun damage

Are there any side effects with an IPL Photofacial?

You may experience mild redness, swelling and/or bruising for 2-4 days following your treatment. This is typically well-tolerated by most patients. Remember, every client is unique, and these are general guidelines.

Is the IPL Photofacial safe for all skin types?

No! The IPL Photofacial is not safe on darker skin types/colors. It is important to go to a clinic that specializes in skin so that a Board-Certified Dermatologist and their team can determine if this treatment is right for you. For darker skin tones, we do offer other lasers that are more appropriate and safer for treatment. At Lucere, we are proud to offer over 25 different lasers and skin devices so that we can treat every skin type and color. When will I see results?

Many conditions see long-lasting results after just one treatment. However, 3-5 sessions are often recommended for optimal results. The recommended amount of treatments will vary on your unique skin concerns.
