The Biggest Trend of the Decade
One of the hottest trends that took the cosmetics industry by storm over the last few years, has been an increasing shift of women turning to dermal fillers, and it’s safe to say we can all agree why! Dermal fillers help to restore volume in areas of your face, leading to a more enhanced, youthful appearance.
Expertly injected filler also helps in bringing back the natural contours of your face, or giving volume to areas that lacked it in the first place. When injected correctly, fillers can also help in gaining symmetry in places like your lips, or even create structure in places like your cheeks, nose or jawline. Whatever your goal is, the filler can be a great solution to achieve it.
So why do we lose volume in our faces in the first place? Well, over time, healthy skin tissue and natural facial volume begins to diminish due to a natural slow down in your body’s collagen output. This results in an aged appearance with very noticeable lines, wrinkles and skin laxity.
This client had her chin expertly treated with filler to achieve a slimmer, more defined chin and jawline.
That’s right, it Begins and Ends with Collagen!
So, what exactly is collagen? Collagen is a natural protein created by the body, and plays a vital role in the perceived youthfulness of our skin. Collagen is one of the most important building blocks of skin, given that it makes up about 75 percent of our skin’s support structure.
Unfortunately, it is a simple fact of life that collagen begins to naturally decrease as we age, with our bodies losing the ability to create quality collagen year after year. What’s worse, so many other factors speed up our bodies’ abilities to create this protein, and this includes things like:
- Bad lifestyle habits (i.e. smoking)
- Poor diets (i.e. diets high in sugar)
- Environmental factors (i.e. UV rays from the sun, pollution)
Filler was expertly injected at the top of this client’s nose, softening his features and straightening his nose non-invasively. This is commonly referred to as the Liquid Nose Job.
Good News? Dermal Fillers!
Thanks to advancements in dermal filler technology and techniques, we now have a safe, non-invasive option that can restore volume, structure and youthfulness with no downtime and fast results. There are many different types of fillers on the market today that is made of body-safe substances, but the most common and best ingredient found in premium fillers is hyaluronic acid, which is naturally found in the skin. Hyaluronic acid is found in many skin care products such as serums and moisturizers, so it’s a perfectly safe ingredient.
Dermal fillers themselves are a very soft, gel-like substance, which combats fine lines and wrinkles due to ageing, by being injected under the skin. Fillers are highly effective for treating many things, such as:
- Softening lines & wrinkles
- Restoring fullness & volume to aged skin
- Adding symmetry & plump to your lips
- Enhancing & reshaping facial features such as your cheekbones or jawline

1. What can I expect during my treatment?
Before administering your injections, the treated area will be cleaned and prepped for the procedure. You may have a topical anesthetic applied to the area in an effort to numb it so that no pain is felt. Our expert injectors will then inject a precise amount of filler beneath your skin and massage it into place to achieve the desired results.
2. How fast is the treatment and result instant?
The treatment itself is relatively quick, but varies depending on the area of your face being treated and the amount of filler required to achieve the desired results. On average, you can expect your treatment to take approximately 30 minutes to an hour, depending on where you are being treated. In terms of your results, you will be able to see them right away, however, you must consider that your treated area will be swollen for a few days, and it takes about 2 full weeks to have your filler set, giving you the full effect.
3. Should I be doing anything to prepare for my treatment?
It is best to avoid any alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before and after your treatment as this will help in reducing swelling of the treated area. Other substances to avoid before treatment are Aspirin, anti-inflammatories such as ibuprofen found in Advil or Aleve, multivitamins, fish oil or vitamin E. All these substances are to some degree blood thinners and can result in more bruising post-treatment.
4. How long will my Filler treatment last?
Results with fillers vary, and this is all dependent on the particular filler used and the specific area that is being treated. On average, premium fillers can last anywhere between 9-24 months. Our experts at Lucere can provide a more specific timeframe during your complimentary consultation, where our Board-Certified Dermatologist and Aesthetic Nurses will determine the type of filler and quantity needed for your desired results.
This client had the area around her eyes, known as crow’s feet, expertly treated with filler to achieve a smoother, more youthful surface with less lines.
5. How much do Dermal Fillers cost?
The price of your treatment will be dependent on the area(s) being treated and the amount of product needed to achieve the desired effect. A single syringe of filler at Lucere costs $550.00-750.00. We invite you to contact us for a complimentary consultation, where our experts can create a customized treatment plan based on your own goals, unique facial aesthetic, as well as discuss what’s right for you.
6. What are the potential side effects of a Filler treatment?
Fillers are a relatively safe treatment with not many side effects. It is normal to experience redness, swelling, tingling, firmness, and/or bruising after treatment. These effects are common and temporary, fading away within a few days after treatment. Injections in the lips may cause more swelling or bruising given the soft tissue in the area. Remember, you should always research your injector well and only allow a highly trained injector who understands the anatomy of the face to perform this treatment, in order to avoid complications.
7. Will I look worse than before I started, if I decide to stop using Fillers?
No. Dermal fillers are made of natural substances found in your body, which the body naturally absorbs after a certain amount of time. Fillers are temporary, and if you decide to stop using them, the effects will fade away and you will see a volume deficit in the treated areas again. But don’t forget, that as you age, your body will produce fewer amounts of quality collagen, which will inevitably speed up the ageing process.
Filler was carefully injected into this client’s ear lobes to provide a smoother surface that looks more youthful and full.
8. Is there such a thing as ‘too much Filler’?
Absolutely! At Lucere, our philosophy has and always will be Look Good. Not Done. We believe in enhancing the natural beauty of our clients, without giving them a fake look. Our advice is to go slow! It is safer to do relatively smaller amounts of filler over the course of two or three sessions to avoid results that are too dramatic and less than desirable. In our experience, women always regret having an overfilled lip or overly large cheekbones, and we have had to correct many of these cases. It is easier to add more volume later in a way that makes sense with your face, and leaves you looking amazing.
9. Can I fix a case of ‘fillers are gone bad’?
Yes, for the most part, fillers are easier to fix than something like Botox. If hyaluronic based fillers (which are the most common fillers used today) such as Juvéderm or Restylane are used, you can get the effects of the filler reversed through hyaluronidase, which is an enzyme that essentially speeds up the degradation of the hyaluronic acid in a quick and safe way. However, we recommend choosing an injector who is an expert as it saves you the cost, time and potential pain of reversing badly injected fillers. Have it done right the first time!
10. Is Botox considered a Filler?
No. Botox and filler, though both injected into the face, are two different things. Instead of adding volume or filling fine lines and wrinkles, such as fillers do, Botox works by relaxing the muscles in the face, which softens expressions that lead to fine lines and wrinkles in the first place. Botox can be used alongside filler to give you a more youthful, well-rested and fresh appearance.
